The following shall be standing committees of Theta Kappa Sorority. Each of these shall be headed by a chairperson elected by regular election procedures at the end of each semester.

This organization shall be known as the Sisterhood of Theta Kappa(Theta Kappa Sorority).


a.) Amount of dues will be determined at the first regular Sorority meeting of each semester. Dues must be paid to the Treasurer no later than the third regular Sorority meeting unless previous arrangements have been made with the Treasurer.
b.) Failure to pay dues will result in suspension from all group activities until the dues are paid. The Treasurer will notify the member of the suspension.
c.) All finanacial obligations must be fulfilled by the end of the semester or suspension will result upon notification by the Treasurer



a.) Attendance is required by all active members of the Sorority at all regular and special meetings, unless excused. An excused absence will be granted due to illness, job commitments, family obligations, school related activities, and emergencies.
b.) Members may be excused by contacting one of the four members of the executive board.
c.) An active memeber shall not miss more than three regular meetings per semester.
d.) Failure to meet these attendance requirements will result in suspension upon notification by the Secretary.





The following shall be the powers and duties of the President:
a.) She shall be the official representative & delegate of the Sorority.
b.) She shall preside over all meetings of the Sorority.
c.) She shall have the authority to call special meetings when needed.
d.) She shall be an ex officio memeber of all Sorority committees.
e.) She shall be responsible to enforce all Sorority encacted legislation.

The following shall be the powers and duties of the Vice President:
a.) She shall assume all powers and duties of the President in case of the President's absence, resignation, or removal from office.
b.) She shall be Sergeant of Arms for the Sorority.
c.) She shall act as the Theta Kappa coordinator for any activites involving our brother fraternity, Circle K.
d.) She shall be responsible for informing all Sorority committee chairpersons of their duties and ensuring that those duties are fulfilled. She will approve all pledging activities before they are sent to the Director of Student Activities

The following shall be the powers and duties of the Secretary:
a.) She shall assume all powers and duties of the President in case of the President and Vice President's absence.
b.) She shall carry on all official correspondence of the Sorority.
c.) She shall distribute revised copies of the Constitution at the third regular Sorority meeting of the Fall semester.
d.) She shall keep records of memebrship attendance and minutes of the Sorority.
e.) She shall determine "reasonable excuse" for absence from all meetings of the Sorority.
f.) She shall personally inform any memeber who has lost her active status because of unexcused absences from regular Sorority meetings.
g.) She shall inform any member of meeting changes regarding time & place.

The following shall be the powers and duties of the Treasurer:
a.) She shall assume all powers and duties of the President in case of the President, Vice President, and Secretary's absence.
b.) She shall sign or cosign all disbursements from the Sorority treasury.
c.) She shall keep a permanent record of all official expenditures of the Sorority.
d.) She shall inform the Sorority of the status of the treasury at every Sorority meeting.
e.) She shall be personally responsible for the collection of dues and fees from Sorority members.
f.) She shall inform the Sorority Secretary of any member who has lost her active status because of nonpayment of dues or other financial obligations
g.) She shall present a budget to the Sorority for approval by the third regular meeting of each semester.










There shall be an Elections Committee whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) working in conjunction with the Student Union;
b.) scheduling Sorority members to work at election booths.

There shall be a Social Committee whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) scheduling and organizing all social events sponsored by Theta Kappa Sorority;
b.) obtaining permission from the Treasurer to use the appropriate funds;
c.) submitting room requests for all events.

There shall be a Publicity Committee whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) publicizing all events held by Theta Kappa;
b.) obtaining permission from the Treasurer to use copy center account number or other expenses involved in publicizing.

There shall be a Service Projects Committee whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) notifying Sorority memebers of service opportunities;
b.) keeping account of the service projects performed by each active member of the Sorority.

There shall be an Historian whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) taking or collecting pictures of all Sorority functions;
b.) putting all such pictures in a photo album or scrapbook at the end of the semester.

There shall be an Alumni Committee whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) publishing a Sorority newsletter at the end of each semester;
b.) updating the alumni mailing list including all recently graduated members and checking with the computer list in the Alumni Office each semester;
c.) sending invitations to alumni for Sorority formal.

There shall be a Senior Farewell Committee whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) scheduling and organizing a Senior Farewell Banquet;
b.) organizing and distributing a Sorority address book to each member.

There shall be a Greek Council Representative whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) keeping the Sorority informed and involved in activities sponsored by the Greek Council;
b.) representing the Sorority in the Greek Council.

There shall be a Student Union Representative whose resopnsibilities shall entail:
a.) keeping the Sorority informed and involved in activities sponsored by the Student Union;
b.) representing the Sorority in the Student Union.

There shall be Pledge Mistresses whose reponsibilities shall entail:
a.) holding weekly meetings with pledges;
b.) informing the pledges of all responsibilities of pledging including meeting with memebers, demerit system, Hell Week, induction, service project, election of officers within the pledge class, and other pledge procedures;
c.) conducting the Rush and Induction ceremonies;
d.) designating Big Sisters for the pledges;
e.) clear scheduled activities with the Sorority Vice President and the Director of Student Activities.

There shall be a Pledge Committee whose reponsibilities shall entail:
a.) assisting the Pledge Mistresses in the pledging process;
b.) the chairperson of the committee shall be required to attend the weekly meetings of the pledge class.

There shall be a Paraphernalia Committee whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) organizing plans to order paraphernalia for the sorority, especially in relation to special events;
b.) notifying members of the price and ordering the items.

There shall be a Sunshine Committee whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) sending cards to members on their birthdays on behalf of the Sorority and likewise acknowledging other important events.

There shall be a Lip Sync Committee whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) organizing plans for the Greek Week Lip Sync competition;
b.) recruiting Sorority members to participate;
v.) organize and execute practices for the competition.

There shall be a Fundraising Committee whose responsibilities shall entail:
a.) finding and proposing fundraising ideas;
b.) organizing fund raising events for the Sorority and keeping the members aware of its details.



Pledge co-directors will be elected by regular Sorority election procedures at the last regularly schedule meeting of each semester to serve for the next semester.

A rush party will be held in accordance with university guidelines and availability of facilities.

The pledge period is limited to five weeks and the ending date of the pledge period may not fall within one month of the start of final exams.

A calendar of pledge events must be approved by the director of student activities and the members of the Sorority prior to the start of pledging.

Pledge co-directors will hold a separate weekly meeting with pledge members.

Pledges must plan and execute a special community service project as a group in addition to an individual project in order to complete the membership program.

Pledges will be required to pay dues, to be specified by a vote of the Sorority at the first regular meeting of each semester.

Membership will be granted to a pledge upon her willingness to be an active member of Theta Kappa and her successful completion of membership requirements.

Rules and Requirements:
a.) Pledges must wear their Theta Kappa pledge pins at all times except off campus and during participation in sports activities.
b.) Pledges will be required to have compelted weekly signatures by the following Sunday. Scheduling must be completed by Wednesday of that week.
c.) Pledges must attend all required functions and be there on time.
d.) Pledge books and four quarters must be with the pledges at all times with the exceptions of religious services and off campus.
e.) Pledge books are not to be shown to any non-member unless the pledge needs to obtain a signature for a favor.
f.) Pledges must make a worthwhile attempt to fulfillthe members' reasonable requests.
g.) Pledges must be familiar with the services performed by Theta Kappa for the Univeristy and the community.
h.) Pledges will be required as a class to plan and serve a dinner for the members.
i.) Pledges will be required to make pledge paddles for their Big Sisters.
j.) Pledges will be required to participate in all Hell Week activities that are approved by the director of student activities and the student handbook.
k.) Pledges will be required to acknowledge the birthdays of members that fall during the pledging period with a card, sign, email, or phone call.




a.) All members of the Sorority are required to participate in FOCUS.
b.) Two service projects are required each semester. Failure to complete the projects on time will result in a $5 fine. The money collected will be donated to charity.




The Sorority will have a faculty moderator.





Any amendments to this constitution shall be proposed at a regular Sorority meeting and voted upon no sooner than the next regular Sorority meeting.

A 2/3 vote, with 2/3 of the active members present and voting, is necessary to vote any amendments to the constitution.

Any questions or problems with the above Constitution should be brought to the Executive Board's attention.
